Moss Building & Design is a family-owned business that has been remodeling homes in the Northern Virginia market for 10 years. Owners, Pete Hampel, Justin Schopp and Jason Hampel all live and work in Moss’s service area, and giving back to the community has always been part of the company’s philosophy.
Throughout the years, Moss has contributed to causes that affect local families–from contributing to Habitat for Humanity by providing reusable materials removed from homes during remodeling projects to sponsoring local hospitals for area children through the Children’s Miracle Network.
“Paying it forward” by contributing to worthy causes within the community has been the focus for Moss’s donations to family and child-related causes. Moss looks forward to continued involvement in the community and is proud to be part of the following organizations:
Make a Wish Foundation- Providing financial support to make wishes come true for children with life threatening medical conditions.
Junior Achievement Bowl- Prepares young people from K-12 financial literacy education experience to be successful in a global economy.

Youth For Tomorrow- A foundation developed by Joe Gibbs where donations are used to provide a safe, healthy, and compassionate environment for at-risk youth who have been abandoned, abused or alienated from their family or community.
Green Hedges School- Sponsor for Green Hedges Silent Auction. Proceeds from the event provide significant enhancements to school programs and serve as an important revenue stream in the operating budget.
Relay For Life- A fundraiser event where all proceeds go to The American Cancer Society. At Relay, you can find healing, comfort, and support from others who have faced cancer or who have lost a loved one to the disease.
St. Veronica Catholic Church- We’ve supported their Gala Dinner Dance and Auction. These proceeds helped St. Veronica reach their fundraising goal and enables the parish to reduce their debt, fund religious education programs, and support their parish school.
Waples Mill Elementary School- Supported WMES PTA with sponsorship at the golf tournament. WMES offers programs for students in kindergarten through grade six and special programs for preschool students with disabilities aged two through five and for students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, and/or moderate to severe disabilities. Activities for students include before and after school programs in science, foreign language, the arts, scouts, a chess club and others.

Kenmore Middle School- Supported Kenmore Middle School through silent auction donations. The Silent Auction supported Kenmores Arts and Communications Technology Focus Program. Kenmore Middle School is an arts and communications technology focus school. At Kenmore the Arlington middle school curriculum is taught through the arts and communications technology. Students are actively engaged in learning activities that involve dance/movement, drama, visual arts, music and many forms of communications technology.
Veterans of Foreign Wars Department of Virginia- The Virginia Veterans of Foreign Wars has a rich tradition of serving veterans, military families and their local communities.
The National Children’s Cancer Society- Serves as a financial, emotional, and educational resource for families that can’t make ends meet when their child is diagnosed with cancer.
James Madison High School- Supported local high school’s Cross Country team through sponsoring their Annual Warhawks 5k. Proceeds from this fundraiser are dedicated to various needs of the team, including equipment and providing transportation to distant meets.
Food for Others- The largest distributor of free food directly to people in need in Northern Virginia. Food for Others provides the assistance vitally needed by our unemployed and low-income neighbors. They provide a safety net for people who suddenly face unforeseen emergencies such as a family illness or the loss of a job or a spouse.
Angel Kisses 5K- This race was created in honor of a special little boy, Jeffrey Virostek, who lost his brave battle with leukemia on September 25, 2003, at the age of 4 1/2. Angel Kisses is a fund-raising 5K/2K Race to benefit the Jeffrey Virostek Fund, a component fund of the Northern Virginia Community Foundation.
Playmates In Heaven Foundation- A not-for-profit organization created to raise funds for SIDS research. The foundation was created to bring awareness to the public about Infant Sleep Safety Awareness and to raise funds for SIDS Research. After the passing of Brody Andrew King and Taylor Craig Murphy, the families have come together in a joint effort to honor their beloved sons and to prevent families from joining their circle of loss.
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society- The National MS Society is a collection of passionate individuals who want to do something about MS now—to move together toward a world free of multiple sclerosis. MS stops people from moving. We exist to make sure it doesn’t. The National MS Society helps each person address the challenges of living with MS through our 50-state network of chapters.
Virginia American Legion- The American Legion is a patriotic, mutual help and community service organization. It has a worldwide membership of 2.8 million.
Arlington Free Clinic- The goal at AFC is to help their patients become and remain as healthy as possible, so they can go to work and take care of their families. When patients get care at AFC, they manage their conditions, keep them out of expensive emergency rooms and minimize health care costs in our community.
Howard County Autism Society- The Howard County Autism Society serves individuals on the autism spectrum, their families, and their communities by providing information, support, and advocacy; by promoting awareness of autism that values the dignity and uniqueness of each individual; and by working to improve the quality of and access to services and to educational opportunities.
Police Unity Tour- A fundraising bicycle ride to raise money and awareness for fallen officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
Flint Hill Elementary School- Supported the Falcon 5k Fun Run where they continue their mission to promote fitness and education. Any race proceeds directly fund programs that provide equipment, curriculum supplies and student enrichment programs.
Chantilly Baseball- Chantilly Baseball is an all-volunteer organization that coordinates Chantilly Youth Association baseball from age 5 through age 12.
Children’s Miracle Network- Provided funding to local hospitals in our community that provide healthcare for sick and injured children.
Nicholas C. Kirven “Freedom is Not Free” Short Term Fund- This fund was established with the Northern Virginia Community Foundation by Beth and Michael Belle, to provide scholarships to high school students and to support charitable organizations such as Save the Children and TAPS (Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors).
Brunswick Junior Railroaders- Brunswick Jr. Railroaders have a long tradition of providing a safe and competitive sports atmosphere in Frederick County. The experienced coaching staff works with your kids to teach them how to become better football players, better cheerleaders and better young people!
Pinares Project- Sponsor for a benefit concert that sent donations for medical education and services to a town in rural Honduras.
Claude Moore Preschool- Claude Moore Community Center offers preschool classes for two and one half year olds, three year olds and four year olds.
Brookfield Elementary- Brookfield Elementary prepares students to become confident and contributing lifelong learners who are enthusiastic readers, speakers, writers, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. We support their PTA through silent auction donations.
