What Just Happened?

September is brutal.  Who knew the beautiful month that brings us Fall and magic numbers in baseball would become such a complete drain to my system?  Having three kids in three different schools about did me in last month.  I have an idea with regard to Open Houses and Back To School nights…let’s pick one.  ONE.  EITHER/OR.  I want to meet the teacher and let him/her know I exist and I’m pretty sure that’s all said teacher wants from me as well.  I have no capacity to retain info about the spring project or what the SOLs will cover.  I spend most BTSNs thinking the teachers should get to be at home resting for the upcoming school year marathon while they can, not fielding questions specific to how she plans to keep little Johnny challenged, given his above-average intellect and all.

Let’s not forget the startup of Fall sports.  Of course, sports don’t just start – you have to try out or be assessed as they’re calling it these days.  Keep in mind, we are a family of house sports players.  There are no future Olympians sleeping under my roof.  Do my kids really have to try out?  Does someone actually think one of my blessings has turned into Yadier Molina or Mia Hamm in the off season?  Let me save us all some time – they have not.  You know how I know?  Cuz their summer training consisted of hunting Pokemon, eating junk food and messing up my house.  (I left off “sleeping late,” because I was asleep so I cannot confirm.)

And the money.  Holy cow, the money.  Yes, I want to support fuss-free PTA fundraisers.  Yes, I want my kids to have the health and social benefits of playing sports.  Yes, I want them to be able to express themselves through enrichment classes and clubs.  But I also want a money tree in my backyard to make it all a little less painful.

I did come across one of the funniest blogs I’ve read in a while and it made me feel a little better knowing I’m not alone.  (Take a look at September Is The Worst.)  I may have survived September, but I’m tired and I’m broke.  Good thing I don’t have to worry about the holidays for another…oh, crap…
