2017 was a busy year for the MOSS Community Relations team. In this past year alone, the team coordinated the donations of funds, handyman services, food, gift cards, or other items to 100 organizations, schools, and other good causes.

Since its founding in 2001, Moss Building & Design has been a community-minded company, continually supporting Northern Virginia organizations to give back to those in the area who are in need. For each of the past three years, MOSS has been able to donate funds, a Handyman for a Day for silent auctions and raffles, volunteer hours, and materials to over 100 local organizations. Included in this number are MOSS' HandyMOM 101 workshops, which educate and empower women to tackle home improvement projects. These workshops are free and are offered in both public and private settings.

Our work to support the community spans everything from financial support for things like The Women's Center Gala and Silent auction, which provides funds for the center's programs including legal aid, to raffle items for the NephCure Walk, to supporting schools like sponsoring a Handyman for a Day giveaway at the Franklin Sherman Elementary School Monster Mash Dash at Halloween. This year we also had some unique giving opportunities arise which included: collecting diaper and baby clothes donations from the community for the Texas Diaper Bank after Hurricane Harvey; building and donating a mud kitchen for the children at The Country Day School preschool in McLean; and alerting staff to the wide array of blood drives after the Las Vegas tragedy in October.

Annual Activities Inspire the Spirit of Giving

One of our favorite yearly activities is collecting and donating backpacks of school supplies for local organizations.

This year, our backpack drive benefited Share of McLean, Bridges to Independence, and Cornerstones

Another favorite annual community outreach tradition is thanking local area firefighters for their service on 9/11 by delivering a small token of our appreciation in the form of cupcakes.

In 2017, MOSS community relations team members visited eight local fire stations in McLean, Arlington, Great Falls, and Fairfax.

We also gather the entire MOSS team together prior to the holidays to package food bags that are donated to local schools to distribute to children who are apart of reduced or no-cost lunches. These food packs serve as a weekend's worth of food and snacks for kids whose family's may need a little extra assistance over the weekend.

Our Food 4 Thought weekend lunch packing event at MOSS is always a big hit around the holidays. Our whole team enjoys spending time together packing these meals and snacks for local children.

We know 2018 will continue to be a stellar year for giving back and we hope you'll follow along with all our community outreach activities on the MOSS Facebook page, Twitter handle and Instagram page and on the Handymom 101 Instagram
