Kitchen Bump Out Oak Hill, VA

Kitchen Bump Out Oak Hill, VA

Sometimes, it is more affordable to renovate an older home in Northern Virginia than it is to purchase a new home. Brian and Amy loved their neighborhood in Oak Hill but were challenged with limited space, too many walls, and an overall lack of functionality and updated style. Amy had a collection of ideas from touring new homes, researching online, and talking to friends about essentials in kitchen design and practicality that they could not live without. As American homes have changed over the years, so has Moss Building & Design’s approach to custom kitchen design and home remodeling. The kitchen is no longer simply a place where meals are prepared and shared and is more of a central hub spot, especially when children are in play.

At Moss Building & Design we have an extraordinary team of designers who will guide you through your remodel journey. Our award-winning designers work on each project to understand the practical requirements of your kitchen, master suite, or renovation learn about your lifestyle, and capture your inspirational style. Our designers work closely with our highly trained construction teams to create one-of-a-kind space that meets and exceeds homeowners needs and desires. In this Northern Virginia home, Brian and Amy sought to expand their kitchen to include a large, open dining room adjacent to it as well as divide a formal front living room into a grander entranceway, music room, and home office. Additionally, an organized, private mudroom was installed along with a remodeled half-bath next to the kitchen and laundry moved to the main level.

The main floor renovations include new doors and hardware throughout; sliding glass pocket doors into the private office; board-and-batten along the walls; a half bathroom with new fixtures, vanity, and eye-catching designer floor tile; new natural stone fireplace and mantle; and neutral pain to compliment the design and style elements.

The kitchen offers a butler pantry between the living room and kitchen, so guests can help themselves to refreshments. Interestingly, the backsplash of this bar area mirrors the board-and-batten in the adjacent hallway and designed with symmetry as is the main kitchen. The glass-front cabinet doors showcase treasured stemware, and a stainless-steel glass-front mini frig houses favorites.

A must-have in the kitchen was a diagonal-set gas range and decorative hood; it’s all the rage in new homes. Designer end-panels and base-cabinets with front feet finish off the polished look of a long, lengthy bank of custom white cabinets with white countertops, and herringbone-patterned backsplash in grays and whites. Silver handles work well with the color scheme in the kitchen and fantastically decorative kitchen faucet above a deep sink. The symmetry of the design is soothing, and the darker wood island and wide-planked wood floor provides the inviting contrast the kitchen demands. The four-by-eight-foot island seats six and as ideal for so many occasions, from food preparation, socializing, or offering a buffet.

Next to the kitchen is an open space for a dining room to seat at least eight, with floor-to-ceiling windows. A support wall was removed and a fancy designer’s touch includes incorporating a support beam into a decorative open shelving unit. And, next to that is a hidden high-tech charging station for several devices.

Our kitchen remodel designers will assist you through every step of the decision-making, design, and selection process to ensure your new kitchen is a realization of your dreams. The end result is a beautifully crafted built-in kitchen that is unique to your family and home.
