In Our Customer’s Words

You’re in the best of hands.

Andrea K., Great Falls, kitchen

This is our fourth, and largest, project with MOSS and we were extremely pleased, as always. Our project manager, Matt, was very knowledgeable and detail oriented, taking care of us like family. Jodi, our Customer Care Manager, made the process as stress free as possible and the finish selection both easy and enjoyable. There was excellent communication from MOSS. We knew who was coming when and if there was a delay we were informed promptly. Their workforce was diligent and on-task. All of MOSS’s employees were careful, respectful, and very clean. During the project, the roofing sub-contractor had some difficulties. Another roofing subcontractor was quickly found that fixed the problem and MOSS got the project moving again. The other issue we had was that the cabinet coloring was uneven. Matt and Jodi worked with the cabinet manufacturer to have the fronts redone until they were perfect with very little hassle for us. We were exceedingly pleased with MOSS and highly recommend them. We already thinking of our next MOSS project.

This is the third time I have worked with Moss. The Moss employees are top notch. Kristen and Bob went out of their way to make me happy during the project. Here are just a few examples below. Kristen was great helping to narrow down millions of choices out there for me. She sensed my style and researched items for me in advance. For example, she researched lighting so I wouldn’t spend days trying to figure out what I wanted. From the pendant lights, to chandeliers, to sconces, I would taken over a year to figure that out. I took a picture of a unique vessel sink and waterfall faucet that I loved in a restaurant. Not only did Kristen find it, she made sure it was a smaller version that would fit my space. Left on my own, I either would have never found it, or ordered the wrong size. Bob was always ready answer any question or respond to any request I had. Moving lights, adding shelving, changing knobs, there wasn’t anything that he refused to do. He and Dean are perfectionists. Items I wouldn’t have caught, they took care of. The shelf where the microwave was to go was very plain. Dean decided to match the molding from the cabinets and put it on the shelf giving it a beautiful finished look. When it was done I thought, “Wow, what a difference!” He said he would remove it if I didn’t like it. I told him he was crazy, this is exactly why I hire Moss to do my jobs. Bob was on top of everything, filling all my requests. When the subcontractor didn’t build the trashcan properly, Bob went back to the subcontractor and insisted they make it right. He had them order the correct parts and reconstructed the built-in trashcan correctly. Moss makes the process easy. Expectations are laid out in advance, however, they are willing to work with you during the project to make changes. They pay attention to detail (note the molding example above). If something comes up during the project where the design will not work (say tiling) I would receive a call and have the opportunity to look at it and make a decision on how to handle it. Other contractors, I hear, will just make the decision themselves and the homeowner will have to live with THEIR decision. This doesn’t happen often, but, when it did, I was involved.

Katie S., Fairfax, Kitchen remodel

Extremely pleased with our first-floor renovation. From Nick in Sales, Jason to help close the deal, Megan our designer, and Bob the project manager, we were listened to and treated respectfully...Prior to work starting, Bob told me he was hoping for 8-10 weeks. We were back in our kitchen in 8 weeks!... Some small details that I appreciated: 1)There was no dumpster in my driveway. Living on a pipestem is hard enough from a parking perspective. It was great not to have a huge dumpster taking up 3/4 of our driveway. Trash was put in the driveway but picked up within 2-3 days. 2)Moss Online. I loved being able to log in and view my schedule and it is great to look back to see design selections if I want to match anything for future purchases. 3)Clean up each day. The house was always left in a safe, usable condition. Working with Nick, Megan and Bob was seamless. They truly work together as a team to make things right for their customers. Highly recommend Moss (and we are already using them again for our fireplace!)

Christine H., Fairfax, Kitchen remodel

Moss takes great pride in the reputation they enjoy and it shows in their approach to customers, in the culture of the business and directly in the employees. They have transformed my house, given my family the open kitchen concept of our dreams, and improved the way we use all the available space. Yes, I'll use them again!

Phillip M, Oakton – Kitchen

We had been considering a kitchen remodel for years, but trying to figure out how to remove an unsightly bulkhead running through our kitchen always got in the way. Moss came up with a solution and oversaw a new HVAC system installation. Moss kitchen designer, Erin Hoopes, guided us through the process of choosing appliances, cabinets, fixtures and countertops and her expertise is apparent when you look at our completed kitchen -- IT'S BEAUTIFUL. Our project manager, Marty Fletcher, was always very responsive to any questions we had and very accommodating when it came to changes we wanted to make. Marty always made us feel that our satisfaction was his number one priority. Terry and Lonnie did a fantastic job with the day-to-day work and their attention to detail was incredible. They cleaned up each day before they left, which meant a great deal to us, as we have kids and a dog. Speaking of our dog, the guys even took great care of our dog! Greg Ivie, the electrician, is the best you could ask for. He did so much wiring (including a new electric panel and installed so many lights, fixtures, appliances, outlets and switches and it was all done perfectly. His knowledge of his trade is impressive. He even worked through one weekend when we were going to be out of the house so he could minimize the time the power would be off while we were home. jmTalk about great customer service -- wow!

Tricia W. Arlington Kitchen remodel

Moss completed a complete kitchen renovation for us and I could not be any happier with everything from the design through the final outcome. Moss' staff are all very knowledgeable in their particular areas of expertise and all drive towards the same goal of ensuring a happy and satisfied customer during all phases of the project. I cannot wait to start my 2nd project with them. Thanks Moss for making this a GREAT experience. Heather A, Centerville, Kitchen Addition and main level remodel We added an addition to our kitchen, a kitchen remodel as well as new flooring and new stairs. They also added a deck and a three season porch. We were very happy with the end result. The workers were always very polite and respectful. Bob Keene was out project manager and I highly recommend him. He was easily accessible and was available to answer any questions we had. We had some hiccups, but every project does, and he was on top of it and were able to get them resolved easily. Love our new living space!! 7/14/2019 - Doug L, Falls Church, Interior Remodel Anytime you renovate a 50 year old house you are likely to run into issues when the walls, ceiling and floors are opened. Thankfully our Project Manager, Bob Keene, worked with us every step of the way through the renovation. Bob helped us to understand the renovation process so that we were prepared for the disruptions that can occur whiling living in a construction zone. Any surprises that were found behind the walls were addressed and remedied quickly. Bob’s goal of always having a satisfied customer, was a major factor in keeping our stress levels low and bringing our project to a successful conclusion. At the end of the project, the bathrooms are truly beautiful which speaks volumes to the fantastic design and finish selections made by Kristen Corbett and the professional work that Bob and his team provided us. 12/18/2016 - Tricia W, Fairfax, Kitchen and dining room remodel FABULOUS!! I could not have asked for a better experience. The project was to gut the existing kitchen and dining room, found a several year old leaking pipe with water damage and mold. The remediation did NOT affect the project timeline; this was my first WOW! 5 weeks later I had a fully functional, working kitchen in time for Thanksgiving. The entire project team was wonderful to work with .. from Deanna the designer (great ideas and is always focused on keeping you on budget), to John and Dean who were hands on in the build. You cannot ask for a better cabinet man than Dean. His work is pure art. And he doesn't settle for mediocre. We truly felt like he worked on our house the same way he would work on his. The best of all, was our Project Manager Bob. By far the great experience was because of him. He has a great relationship with everyone on his team. He did his best to make sure everything went well according to me .. not anyone elses idea of what I "should" be happy with. Even the water and mold damage didn't feel so painful .. he jumped right in and gave me a plan to fix the situation. His communication with me was impeccable. We spoke every day and more when there were decisions to be made or an issue to troubleshoot. I cannot thank Bob and his team enough for this experience. We are already planning Phase 2 .. master bedroom suite!

Liza B Reston, VA Kitchen bump-out addition

We used Moss for a major kitchen renovation, a small bump out, had multiple interior walls moved, and added a powder room (no basement, so had to tie plumbing within the slab). We met with a number of different companies before choosing Moss... some smaller shops, some with more glitz, some spent more creative time with us before giving us an estimate, some much less. We did consider that two neighbors had used Moss for large projects and were happy overall, but in the end Moss just felt like the best fit for us, and Jessica (sales rep) did a great job. We opted for their "Design Forward" plan, which doesn't really cost more, but you pay more upfront and enter into a more thorough and extensive design process to get a more accurate estimate before signing  a construction contract. Going into this I cemented these facts into my mind: unexpected *stuff* was going to happen, it was probably going to cost more than was estimated, and it was probably going to take longer than was estimated. With this in mind, and with the acknowledgement that we were very lucky to be in the position to undertake this project, I committed to no complaining. I'm proud to say that I did pretty darn well with that goal, AND that this perspective helped to make the whole experience darn close to enjoyable. I highly recommend this perspective to anyone getting ready to have their house torn apart! Moss is not cheap, but having a knowledgable and professional PM who headed problems off at the pass, had the best people working in our house, and truly cared that we were happy with the finished product was worth it... especially given the scope of our project. If you go the Design Forward route, it takes quite a while. You will meet with the designer a number of times with stretches of time between meetings when they make changes (to multiple programs, as I recall). When you meet with them they use a program that produces a computer rendering - very cool -  and will make changes while you are there, but even tweaking the angle of a counter or width of a cabinet is pretty labor intensive, so sometimes you don't make as much progress as you think you will. Our Moss team get's an A+. We were extremely happy with all the folks we worked with throughout our project. From the salesperson (previously mentioned) to the designer (Kristen), to the architect (Chris), to our three - yes three - different project managers, and the multitude of Moss employees (especially the wonderful John and Dean team) and sub contractors who spent so much time in our home. As for the first two project managers, one left after many years with the company to work closer to home so he could have more time with his family, and the second left as he was offered a significant promotion with another company - can't blame either of them! I will say that with each transition there was some lag time as the new project manager got caught up, but *stuff* does happen and thankfully Bob Keene was our third time's a charm PM! Bob has been with the company for years; he knows the business, knows who does the best work, is a great communicator, and truly works for YOU. On top of all that he is a good man. Believe it or not, I genuinely missed (and still miss!) getting my daily dose of John, Dean, and Bob; I will forever be especially grateful for the hard work and care that they put into making our project feel like home, and for making my family and me feel like much more than customers. A couple of things that come to mind that Moss could improve: Moss has a relationship with Ferguson's and directs its clients there for appliances, etc. Although Ferguson's has a solid reputation and likely works seamlessly with Moss on installation, we were less than impressed with the salesperson and the way we received the pricing (very confusing). We ended up going to Bray and Scarff in Tyson's on our own (HUGE shout out to our salesman, Kory Clemons!) and were very happy. Our PM did his best to be ready for installation, but the processes was a little more work for him than it would have been had we used Ferguson's, but Bob came through for us! Although the Design Forward plan ended up coming up pretty on target, there were a number of choices we made early in the design process that ended up coming in significantly over or under the allowance budget, and we didn't know this until the items were close to being delivered. There is no doubt that someone with experience could have looked at the contract and realized that, for example, the tile allowance would be $1000 short. It's surprising to me that Moss doesn't have their PMs review contracts before they are presented to customers, especially because the PMs are charged with letting the customer know that there is an issue. That said, the final result get's an A+. We love everything about the changes to our home, and the quality of the work is truly impressive. Our Moss team did a fabulous job; we couldn't be happier!

Judy C. Alexandria, Kitchen and main level remodel

We did a kitchen redesign with Moss in early 2018.  It wasn't a small project -- we ripped down walls, did a lot of plumbing work that impacted the whole house, and significantly altered the entire layout of our whole kitchen.  To be honest, before we even started, we assumed the entire project would be a form of hell-on-earth, but that we'd suffer through it because it would be worth it in the end. Well, we couldn't have been more wrong and that's because Moss Building and Design is great!  From our sales agent, to our design manager, to the project manager and most importantly, the team who did the work in our home, we couldn't have been happier.  At every step of the way, they made it as easy as possible for us.  Our sales agent Damon helped us craft a kitchen that was what we wanted but within our budget.  Our design manager Molly really understood what we were looking for and helped us pick out all the perfect options with ease.  The project manager Jack kept us well informed of every step of the process and kept it all running like clockwork.  And Luis and Leo, who did the work in our house, were exceptional.  Their work was impeccable and efficient, and they were a joy to have in our homes for 2 months. In the end, the whole project was done in less time than estimated and it all came in on budget.  AND we love the kitchen -- it brings us so much joy as a family!  We couldn't be happier with Moss from start to finish.
