Mudrooms: The perfect organization trick for back to school
By: Leora Kahn, Marketing Coordinator (LKahn@MossBuildingandDesign.com)
When kids come home from school, they throw their belongings everywhere! Your strongest efforts of keeping the kitchen spotless go unnoticed, and the house becomes a wreck. The last thing you want to do is clean up, again, after a long day of work. What you need is an organized place for the kids to neatly store their belongings.
An easy fix is to construct a mudroom with the kids in mind! Mudrooms allow for different cubbies and compartments for family members to put away their personal belongings in a tidy order. This will prevent the loss of backpacks, clothes, lunchboxes, laundry, shoes and more. Messy behaviors will become a thing of the past. Plus, it’ll give you some peace of mind!
Mudroom Storage and Organization
Create a space in your Northern Virginia home that accommodates all of your family’s needs. A place for umbrellas, shoes, winter coats, school supplies, and sports equipment. Create a cubby for mom, dad, and each of the kids. This way, each family member has their own space. No confusion, no fuss, just effective organization in your entryway!
This mudroom remodel in Oakton, VA (pictured below) provides storage for the family. The multiple cubbies add additional storage for baskets, shoes, and other equipment.
Labeling in Your Mudroom
Labeling is your new best friend! If your mudroom has the opportunity for mini baskets within the corresponding cubbies, add some name tags! Show the kids that this space is theirs, and that their belongings have specific homes within their cubbies.
Organizing Sports Equipment in your Mudroom
Go for the locker room look! Is your family full of sports fanatics? (Go Nats!) Incorporate the locker room look into your mudroom. Add some doors to those cubbies and a space dedicated to the sports equipment. The kids will love this fun idea and you will be happy to have a spot in your home that organizes all of your family’s sports equipment!
Sliding Barn Doors in Your Mudroom Remodel
Can’t get enough of the sliding barn doors? Create a room full of potential cubbies, hooks, or other organizational tactics! These sliding barn doors are beautiful and can easily shut to hide the clutter that hides behind them.
