With MOSS’ streamlined process, they started with a Discovery Call to understand the Aikens’ goals and vision. From there, an in-home consultation included a LIDAR scan that helped capture precise measurements of their existing space, laying the foundation for a design that would make every square foot count. The Aikens were then able to use MOSS’ AR and VR software, MOSS 360, to visualize and experience their design in the virtual world before construction even started.

In the kitchen, MOSS reimagined the entire layout to improve flow and connection to the sunroom. The team removed non-load-bearing walls, added new semi-custom Hampshire cabinetry, and replaced the bulky pantry closet with floor-to-ceiling cabinets for better function and clean lines.

A custom island with cabinetry on both sides to maximize storage

Downstairs, the basement transformation turned a simple room into a personal retreat. MOSS repurposed cabinetry from the original kitchen, refinishing and installing it to create a custom wet bar with a stunning butcher block countertop and floating shelves.

But the most extraordinary detail came from a challenge: the Aikens had envisioned reclaimed barnwood for their basement framing—but it was unavailable.

Rather than compromise, MOSS craftsmen created it by hand—burning, distressing, and staining new wood until it looked like authentic, aged timber. They even custom-built trim, baseboards, and the butcher block top to match. The result? A space filled with character, warmth, and a one-of-a-kind story.

As the Aikens put it, “I can say that we love the spaces as much, if not more, than we did when the project was freshly finished.”
