At MOSS Building & Design, remodeling has always been about more than transforming homes—it’s about building community. For over two decades, we’ve had the privilege of helping families across Northern Virginia, Maryland, and Washington, D.C., create the homes they love. But just as important to us is giving back to the neighborhoods that make this region special.
From local partnerships to hands-on volunteer work, our team believes that strong communities are built one connection, one project, and one act of service at a time.
Dumpster Days: Cleaning Up, Together
One of our favorite traditions, MOSS Dumpster Days, brings neighborhoods together for a common goal—decluttering, recycling, and refreshing their spaces sustainably.
Throughout the year, MOSS partners with local homeowners to provide a dumpster for family, friends, and neighbors to use. Our team joins in the effort, lending a hand, catching up with familiar faces, and sharing in the satisfaction of a cleaner community.
Over the years, Dumpster Days have:
✅ Removed tons of unwanted household items and debris
✅ Fostered stronger neighbor-to-neighbor connections
✅ Promoted sustainability and pride in homeownership
It’s a simple concept with a lasting impact—and one that reflects what we believe at MOSS: when communities come together, everyone benefits.
Supporting the Arts: City of Fairfax Theatre Company
When the City of Fairfax Theatre Company needed help restoring their aging prop storage shed, MOSS stepped in to rebuild it.
The structure had fallen into disrepair, with no lighting and severe wear. After navigating the necessary county approvals, MOSS completed a full renovation, giving the local arts community a safe, functional, and inspiring space to store and prepare their sets.
The project was especially meaningful, initiated by the Theatre Company’s president, and serves as another example of how our relationships extend far beyond remodeling homes.
Building Homes & Hope: Habitat for Humanity
Over the years, MOSS has partnered with Habitat for Humanity ReStores, donating unused materials, over-ordered items, and gently used fixtures from remodeling projects.
Much of what we donate comes directly from our customers—homeowners who want to see their extra materials put to good use. These donations help Habitat build affordable homes for local families, keeping usable items out of landfills and giving them new purpose in the community.
Teaming Up for Local Impact: Crossfield Elementary & Lowe’s
When Crossfield Elementary School faced a serious drainage issue—water pooling across sidewalks and making the area unsafe—MOSS stepped up alongside Lowe’s to help.
With no funding available from the county, our teams worked together to dig out and redirect the drainage area, improving safety and functionality for the school community. It’s a perfect example of what happens when local businesses collaborate for the greater good.
Supporting Veterans: Tunnels to Towers
MOSS is proud to support Tunnels to Towers, a national nonprofit providing mortgage-free homes to Gold Star families and wounded veterans.
Our connection began when Rob Jones, a Middleburg resident and double amputee veteran, spoke at a MOSS company event and introduced us to the organization. Since then, MOSS has contributed to Tunnels to Towers’ mission—donating services, materials, and support to help them continue transforming the lives of those who’ve served.
We’re honored to have been part of remodeling Rob’s home, ensuring it meets his accessibility needs and reflects his resilience and strength.
Partnering for Inclusion: Our Stomping Ground 5K/10K
This summer, MOSS was proud to sponsor Our Stomping Ground’s 3rd Annual 5K/10K at Occoquan Regional Park—a celebration of inclusion, connection, and community.
Our Stomping Ground (OSG) is a Northern Virginia nonprofit that empowers adults with disabilities to live independently and meaningfully. Through affordable housing partnerships and inclusive programs, they’re building neighborhoods where everyone belongs.
At MOSS, we share that mission. Supporting OSG allows us to extend our values beyond construction and into the heart of what we do.
Empowering Local Youth: Chantilly Sports Partnerships
MOSS has also proudly supported youth sports in Chantilly, helping improve facilities that bring families together.
When the Chantilly Youth League’s dugout lost its roof, MOSS repaired it. We also gave the high school concession stand a complete overhaul, including electrical and lighting upgrades, so players, families, and fans could enjoy a better experience on and off the field.
Desks for Distance: Supporting Students in Need
During the height of distance learning, MOSS employees and craftsmen came together to build 100 desks for students who didn’t have a proper workspace at home.
Each desk was handcrafted and donated to local families—helping children learn comfortably and stay engaged in their education during a challenging time.
A Foundation Built on Community
From our founding, MOSS has been a family business built on a simple mission: to build peace of mind—for our customers, our employees, and our neighbors.
Giving back isn’t an afterthought; it’s part of who we are. Whether it’s remodeling a kitchen, repairing a dugout, or donating to Habitat for Humanity, every act of service reflects our belief that strong communities make strong homes.
