Too often it is taken for granted that a master bedroom will automatically have an ensuite master bathroom. For these homeowners and their historic Herndon home, built in 1910, this was not the case. In fact, their home, while incredibly beautiful, not only lacked a master bathroom but also had structural limitations throughout due to its age.

Jacey and Brad were seeking a master bathroom that was an extension of their bedroom’s look and feel, and that not only retained original features of the home, but also reflected their personal aesthetic and their desire for a spa-like experience.

Master Bathroom Remodel In Herndon: The Details

Moss Building & Design worked closely with Jacey and Brad to create the master bathroom of their dreams out of their home’s second level “bonus” room, which was attached to their master bedroom. Transforming this room into a bathroom required a great deal of design, layout and behind the scenes effort as it was not originally ever intended to be a bathroom. All associated plumbing for the bathroom had to be run upstairs, through the floors and walls, for example.

A historic home must be treated with care, and our homeowners appreciated the attention to detail that our designers paid to making sure the layout of the master bathroom reflected both present day needs and original touches. For example, the custom arch on the ceiling above the water closet matches the original arch located in one of the open doorways in the home’s kitchen. Bringing that element upstairs provided a continuous flow of design throughout the home.

Today, Jacey and Brad’s new master bathroom is a welcoming, bright space with a large walk-in tiled shower, a free-standing tub next to a window that allows in soothing natural light, and a gorgeous vanity repurposed from a beloved piece of furniture. The master bathroom’s floor is the original hardwood, treated to be able to withstand water. The overall feel of the bathroom is one of peace, relaxation, and rejuvenation.  How do you feel about this master bathroom remodel in Herndon, VA?
